Cookie Cake 2009

Annabelle is already planning for her 3rd birthday party. She found a picture of her Great American Cookie Cake from her 2nd birthday party, and she said, "I want a cow dis year."

Her cookie cake in 2008 had a huge horse head. And, believe me, I did NOT pick it out! That is a story in itself. I tried to persuade her then to choose the one with the cute teddy bear or even the Piglet one since she was Piglet for Halloween last year.

Oh no! She wanted the huge horse head! And, I'm trying to encourage her to make choices at an early age, so it wouldn't have been right for me to take her to choose the cookie cake to only make the decision myself. Of course, I probably shouldn't have tried to persuade her otherwise either. Maybe I'll learn a thing or two before the next child comes along!

Do you think I'm thrilled about the cow? All I can say is that means more icing, and that my friends is a good thing! Ditto on the horse head! That may be the only good thing though. Well, besides the joy that horse cookie cake has brought to my sweet girl over the past year just in looking at pictures alone, not to mention the joy she had when she first saw it. I guess that makes it all worth it!

On second thought, is the Great American Cookie Company still in business? If not, I don't know what we're going to do! I am definitely not making a cow cookie cake!

Come on now, you remember your very, very early days of cake decorating! Find a picture of a cute cow, enlarge it, if possible, then poke holes around it with a toothpick when it's flat on the cake/cookie, outline that with icing and fill it in with stars. Start with free coloring book pages fromthe internet. But keep it as simple as possible. Get pictures of your project from start to finish, even while you're looking for the cow. And hope she doesn't change her mind once you've done all that.

Try it on waxed paper before you try it on the cake just in case you have to order one from the bakery later. Enjoy eating your mistakes.

You also might try a smaller version of chocolate chip cookie and smaller cow just in case it doesn't work out so well. Ha, ha!

Costco and Sams both sell the Chocolate Chip Cookie dough, so I would start there. It would be just as healthy as anything you bought because you know they don't make it on the spot from scratch.

And, no, I'm not volunteering to do anything but watch and take pictures!

You have talent, I've seen your work. Get to work early (three months ago?) because you really don't have very long before you need the finished product! Ohh, that's so scary, isn't it?

Oh, and there used to be something called 'rice paper' you could trace your design on and then put it on the cake and fill it in with stars. I haven't seen that stuff in ages. It was very difficult to find from a cake decorating specialty store, and very expensive, the only time I did find it. It was edible and just melted into the cake.

The more cartoonish it looks the better for her, most likely. They don't get really picky until they get older.

They are still in business at Town Center. Try Walmart - they make cookie cakes.
