Learning to Use Scissors

Grandmama starting showing Annabelle how to use scissors back in January (I think). It may have actually been earlier than January, but she was definitely practicing in January. So, a few weeks ago, I bought Annabelle a two pack of scissors from the Dollar Tree almost identical to the ones that Grandmama bought. The only difference is that Annabelle's are red, and Grandmama's are blue. And, believe me, Annabelle immediately pointed out to me that "Ganmama got dose. Ganmama's boo."

Well, Annabelle saw me use my scissors today, and she immediately decided that she also wanted to cut something with mine. I told her that she couldn't use my scissors because they are, obviously, way too sharp for her. So instead, I opened her pack of red scissors.

She was thrilled! It kept her entertained for 20 minutes, at a minimum. No joking, I started snapping pictures at 10:58 a.m., and I took my very last picture at 11:12 a.m. because she was still cutting the same paper! I only took 9 pictures, but I decided to take pictures at 11:12 a.m. because I wanted to remember how long she was occupied with her scissors. And, I didn't start taking pictures until 5 or 10 minutes after she started cutting, and she continued cutting until around 11:15 a.m., so she was probably entertained closer to 25 or 30 minutes.

That is simply amazing! Have you ever tried to entertain a 2 year old for even 5 minutes on one project? If you have, then you know what an accomplishment it was for her to entertain herself with scissors for 25-30 minutes.

One other thing worth noting. I have thought for sure over the past few months that she is definitely going to be a lefty, but as she started using the scissors today, she started cutting with her right hand. However, in each of the two pictures posted on this blog, she is using a different hand in each picture.

I asked her who showed her how to cut with her right hand. Her response: "Ganmama." I know better than that though because Grandmama does not believe in trying to convert a lefty into a righty.
