Sarah Annabelle

Grandmama, Granddaddy, Annabelle and I visited Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia today. Annabelle visited for the first time back in December 2007, but this was the first time that a Cabbage Patch Kid was named after her.

Nurse Becky delivered Sarah Annabelle at 3:25 p.m. She weighed 1 lb, 3 oz, and she was 16 inches long. Nurse Becky chose Annabelle to pick Sarah's middle name. Annabelle (really, Mommy) chose Annabelle for Sarah's middle name, so Sarah became Sarah Annabelle.

Annabelle's Great Grandmama Gordon (aka Mama Gordon) also had a Cabbage Patch Kid named after her. I don't remember what year that was, but I'm thinking it was probably 1992 because I think the Cabbage Patch Kid was named Drucilla Samantha (after Mama Gordon) around Mama Gordon's 90th birthday. And, yes, my Mama Gordon's name was Drucilla Samantha. I don't know why my parents didn't buy the Cabbage Patch Kid named after my Mama Gordon, but I am sure that some little girl loved her Cabbage Patch Kid very much, despite the awful first name. Sorry Mama Gordon! I love you, but you must have cursed your parents many times for naming you Drucilla. I've always thought it sounded a lot like Cruella De Vil. And, my Mama Gordon was to the complete opposite extreme of Cruella.

After looking through the pictures that my parents had taken of Sarah Annabelle's birth, I could see just how intently Annabelle was watching the birth of her first named child. She really enjoyed it! This was the second birth of a Cabbage Patch Kid she has seen.

After Sarah Annabelle was born, Annabelle requested to "go see baby doll." So, we walked over to Nurse Becky who was completing the "It's a Girl!" card. She offered to let Annabelle hold the baby doll, and Annabelle accepted with glee. She hugged her and held her very close. I can already tell that she's going to make a wonderful Mommy one day by the love she shows baby dolls and real live babies.

By the way, Nurse Becky even spelled "Annabelle" correctly without us even telling her. She had just finished writing "Annabelle" when we walked over for Annabelle to see the baby doll.

We also watched Sarah Annabelle from the nursery window and took many pictures of her by her "It's a Girl!" card, just as proud parents and grandparents always do! Unfortunately, someone else will have to adopt Sarah Annabelle because the proud Grandmama (that would be me) is too cheap!

Annabelle's Daddy even asked me if I adopted her when I called him to tell him that Annabelle had a Cabbage Patch Kid named after her. I said, "No!" He said, "Why not? What kind of mother are you?" Apparently, a very cheap one. I told him that those baby dolls typically cost in the $100 range. He then said, "Oh."

Annabelle really enjoyed the trip to Babyland! I never even thought to ask how much the doll cost to adopt! You know that is why they name them while you are there so you would be more likely to adopt them. Now you will always wonder who adopted that doll. Nice story about the doll and Annabelle's trip.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL page! I love it! You did a fantastic job, so good you make me sick! The reason we didn't adopt Drucilla Samantha was the same reason you didn't adopt your new granddaughter, Sarah Annabelle, we were too cheap and too poor. I would have loved to have had her. Of course, I would take everyone of them home with me, you know.

Aunt Mary said if she had awaken Christmas morning to find one of the Cabbage Patch Kids under her tree she would have screamed and cried hard. To think Santa would have left her such an ugly doll would have been a big insult.

Not me. I love the charm of those sweet dolls, but then again, I've met very few dolls I didn't love. Guess that comes from having a deprived childhood.

My friends always had the cutest, most adorable baby dolls and I don't think they ever knew how to appreciate them.

It was a fun day indeed and we can go back anytime you want to. Who knows how long the economy will hold up to keep them in business.

Again, great, great job.

And yes, Annabelle will be a great mommy. I have proof by the way she grabbed Loraine by the ponytails and jumped her all over the inside and outside of that building. She's practicing quality time with her baby.

Too cute! I love that Sarah Annabelle had red hair. I remember going with you to Baby Land General many years ago. Maybe we can take Christopher to see them one day. Part of me wants to go rescue my "babies" from mom and dad's house but I have no where to put them.
