Got Cashews?

If you do, please don't give any to Annabelle! Or, she'll start looking like this.

I know, this doesn't look all that bad, but it looked worse in person. And, she didn't even actually eat a cashew! She had peanuts (which she is not allergic to), almonds (which she is also not allergic to) and M&M's from a bag of trail mix at Nonnie's house. I specifically pulled out the cashews since we had an emergency room visit for ingested cashews a year ago. Nothing serious last year, and Benadryl would have probably done the trick, but the hives and rash covering her entire body freaked me out, and I completely forgot to give her Benadryl. Instead, last year, we hopped in the car with her with Tylenol in hand. Can anyone say moron? But, now we are a little more wiser (and grayer).

So, apparently, this is what you get when your child is allergic to cashews and eats something else with cashew dust on it only 2 hours before this picture was taken. It didn't take long for the rash to start though. I noticed it on our drive home, while she was napping in the car, only 30 minutes after she had the trail mix. I made sure to stir her to make sure she was still breathing and open her mouth to check for any swelling while she napped in the car and hubby drove. Fortunately, the Benadryl quickly kicked in after we gave her some at 7:00 p.m., and the rash was completely gone before bedtime.

Does anyone else think it is a little ironic that we nicknamed this child "Cashew" while she was still in the womb?

Wow! She must have eaten at least one, as I do not think that the dust would have done that! Maybe she got one from some one else without you knowing about it.

She looks so SAD!

I have a hard time remembering not to give her just anything. Guess I better get some Benadryl and confirm the dosage with you. Granddaddy has been wanting to get cashews to keep around here and I told him we don't need them because we might forget and give them to her. Sure hope she outgrows it soon. I have bad memory sometimes when it relates to what to give her. I just think she can have anything, anytime. And that was funny about calling her cashew before she was born. See, I had forgotten that already, myself. Sure glad you didn't call her "ice cream", or even peanut wouldn't have been good. But I think that was her first cousin to be,first name when they were expecting him. Don't remember what the other's names were. The first one apparently gets a name; the others are neglected.

What a terrible thing to be allergic too. And I've never heard of being allergic to just one nut...what a funny little girl!!

I am so sorry about that. I did not even think about the cashews. I am so glad that the benedryl did the trick. No mure mixed nuts for Miss Annabelle.
Love you, Nonnie
